Galileo

Galileo is a satellite navigation system and the European alternative to the US Global Positioning System (GPS) and the Russian GLONASS, both funded and controlled by military authorities. Devised by the EU and the European Space Agency (ESA), Galileo is designed for civil use only and should be operational by 2008.
